Huntingdon County Prothonotary / Clerk of Courts Office
Pennsylvania does not use the District Clerk title for Huntingdon County trial-court filings. The local primary court-record office is the Office of Prothonotary / Clerk of Courts, led by Sarah Snare. The office is listed at 223 Penn Street, Courthouse, Huntingdon, PA 16652, with phone numbers 814-643-1610 and 814-643-5511, fax 814-643-4271, and email ssnare@huntingdoncounty.net.
The county describes the office as divided into Prothonotary, Quarter Sessions, and Clerk of Courts functions. Those divisions explain why one counter may handle divorce decrees, civil subpoenas, summary appeals, criminal costs, and older public road or bridge records.

Huntingdon County Prothonotary Civil Records Duties
The Prothonotary side dockets, indexes, and maintains civil actions in the Court of Common Pleas. These Huntingdon County Prothonotary records include appeals, equity actions, custody, divorce, protection from abuse, judgments, federal tax liens, UCC financing statements, support actions, and civil filings that begin by writ, complaint, or other pleading.
The office also issues and indexes writs of execution for sheriff sales, writs of summons, and writs of renewal. It records oaths of office, issues civil subpoenas on attorney request, notarizes papers, appoints arbitrators and boards of viewers in certain civil actions, prepares certified divorce decrees, registers notary signatures, assists the public with abuse petitions, forwards abuse-case data to Pennsylvania State Police, and sends civil orders to parties or counsel.
Huntingdon County Clerk of Courts and Quarter Sessions Records
The Clerk of Courts side maintains criminal cases received from the three Magisterial District Judge offices. It accepts bail when appropriate, issues bench warrants at the request of the District Attorney or Probation Department, maintains juvenile dependency and delinquency proceedings subject to access limits, attends criminal trials as officer of the court, swears witnesses and jury panels, announces verdicts, assesses costs and fines, reports motor-vehicle charge outcomes to PennDOT, compiles AOPC disposition and sentence data, issues criminal subpoenas, dockets summary appeals, and conducts certain criminal record searches for agencies and organizations.
Quarter Sessions records are a separate public-record category within the same office. They include municipal ordinances or resolutions about streets, roads, and bridges, petitions to open or close roads, private detective license applications, annual municipal audit reports, lists of constables and tax collectors, bond information, oaths of office, election inspector and judge appointments, and school police officer appointments.
How to Request a Certified Copy from Huntingdon County
Certified copies are often needed for divorce decrees, judgments, dispositions, appeals, and other official filings. A certified copy confirms that the copy came from the court record custodian. The Prothonotary / Clerk of Courts should be given enough identifiers to locate the exact docket and document.
- Identify whether the record is civil, divorce, custody, PFA, criminal, summary appeal, or another Common Pleas filing.
- Search UJS Case Search for a docket number when public docket information is available.
- Contact the Prothonotary / Clerk of Courts by phone, mail, email, or courthouse counter with party names and the document requested.
- Confirm the current copy, certification, mailing, and payment requirements before sending funds.
- Request certified handling specifically, because a plain copy is not the same as a certified court copy.
